Story: DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM, founded in 2011, is a partnership between the entrepreneur Lars Dittrich, and gallerist André Schlechtriem, the former curator of the Judith Rothschild Foundation Contemporary Drawing Collection in New York, which then became part of MOMA NY’s permanent collection. Both partners had founded their first galleries in 2006, in New York and Berlin, respectively. The gallery space is located in the vital circuit Berlin-Mitte, in immediate vicinity of the KW Institute for Contemporary Art. The gallery presents up to eight exhibitions per year and promotes manifold publications for each exhibition that include contributions from renowned writers, introducing the work of international emerging and mid-career artists while participating regularly in international art fairs. The ability of DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM to identify and cultivate the potential of young auspicious artists goes along with successfully setting up links to internationally established and aspiring collectors. It is one of the prime intents of the gallery is to build substantial relationships that support, protect and enhance the artist’s presence and involvement in leading discourses and discussions on contemporary art. In addition to bringing new active clients to the emerging contemporary market within the last five years numerous works are placed within significant German and international collections. DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM regularly engages with institutional and curatorial projects, enhancing the profile of the artists and creating opportunity for artistic development. The represented artists are included in worldwide biennials and significant museum collections and exhibitions such as La Biennale di Venezia, the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in India, Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, among others. The gallery exhibitions and artists have been reviewed and covered frequently in numerous national and international press outlets such as Frieze, Monopol, Art, Modern Painters, The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Welt am Sonntag, Die Zeit, Corriere Della Sera, and Le Temps.
