Post Post Post

15. November 2019 - 16. Dezember 2019

When Mainoeuvre was becoming an idea, the first glimpse of the mission was to bring artists from all over the world to an environment that would inspire them to explore their creativity and push the boundaries of social and personal image, while being in a comfortable surrounding. It is a real pleasure to announce that the goal has been reached. Just like it started, the year is coming to its end with yet another Artists in Residence project hosting a freshly-made Berlin-based artist Prizmu.

We’ve been enjoying to be a part of Prizmu’s exciting working process at the gallery space since August. The artwork produced in the last three months under the name ‘Post Post Post’ will be presented in Mainoeuvre Gallery from Nov 15 – Dec 15, 2019. The exhibition will be comprised of eighteen large format acrylic canvases. The opening night takes place on Friday, Nov 15 at 7PM. Stay tuned for updates on finissage and open door events during the exhibition.

To create is divine, to reproduce is human – Man Ray

If you know Prizmu, that would probably be from the urban walls around the world, where Prizmu left a mark as any other prolific street artist would. Only for Prizmu, the colour spray and the wall is just another media to express ideas while “art itself is all about desire”. Hence an abundant production of artwork using vast number of techniques, from digital printing to traditional painting. Largely inspired by Dada, particularly the work and philosophy of Marcel Duchamp, Prizmu is all about appropriation. Yet for “Post Post Post” series, Prizmu is not using ready-made objects designed for every day purpose but rather re-contextualising well established postmodern icons. By using Jeff Koons’ “Pink Panther” for the painting “Functional Ready Made” or Roy Lichtenstein’s “Look Mickey” in “This is not Look Mickey”, Prizmu appropriates the appropriated, making a ripple effect that additionally distorts the original. This is literally visible in Prizmu’s shaky representation of Mickey Mouse, which is yet again Keith Haring’s appropriation of the most famous mouse in the world. Furthermore, as the Lichtenstein’s painting appears more of a product of industrial manufacture than the very pulp image that is based on, “This is not Look Mickey” is clearly a product of the post-internet era. “Internet is the key to understanding my work” says Prizmu, “because it is a central element and unlimited source of information. I am interested in talking about our era, the era of globalisation. I combine my work with the computer. Internet is my Muse”. Prizmu stands as some sort of a digital prism that refracts or rather pixelates characters from popular culture and postmodern art, juxtaposing the self image to the ever more objectified self. The distorted image of Alice in the mirror is not any more a mere reflection that will bring you into a phantasmagorical world at the other side of the glass, but a hyperreal image made of ones and zeros that talks to you via surgically prepared algorithms. This is the side of the screen where Prizmu is feeling to have a voice.

“Who is Prizmu?
Prizmu is anonymous.
Prizmu is an interdimensional being.
Prizmu is not absolute.
Prizmu is not dead.
Prizmu is for Prizmu.
Prizmu has no age.
Prizmu is innocent.
Prizmu is awareness.
Prizmu is the future.”
