Art Exhibition: Pastorals/ Schäfergedichte
1. Juni 2018 - 29. Juni 2018
Agata Zaleszczyk–Hamme was born in Lublin, Poland. She completed a B.A. in fine art in 2007 at Kingston University, London, followed by an M.A. in art & design in education from the Institute of Education, London in 2011. While still at the art college, her collaborative work Untitled 4 was exhibited at the Royal Academy ́s Summer Exhibition 2007 and it was subsequently shortlisted for the BBC Two Newcomer’ s Prize. From 2014, she has been living and working in Berlin, Germany. She specialises in drawing and painting.
In her latest body of work, Zaleszczyk–Hamme revisits the themes of flesh and corporeality as part of a broader investigation into the subject of mortality and the synergies of life and death as well as the complexities and precariousness of the human-nature relationship which underpin her artistic practice.
The artist utilises tradiotional oil painting techniques, yet gives them an expe- rimental slant in rendering and demarcating her visual language. The sometimes transgressive tone of Zaleszczyk–Hamme`s symbolism and allegory inspired work conjures up a pecularly distinctive anachronistic mood which juxtaposed with contemporary themes and modern day context land the work its ironic character.
