“Challenging Apophenia” with Carlo Benvenuto, Jonathan Binet, Ariel Cabrera Montejo, Mario Dellavedova, Gabriele Silli
14. Juni 2025 - 31. Juli 2025

In the quiet drift between artworks in a group exhibition, the mind becomes a weaver of invisible
threads. Faced with paintings, sculptures, and installations that may share no stated theme, no
common medium, we nonetheless begin to hear a dialogue. One work echoes another in color, a
gesture repeats across space, a silence in one piece is answered by noise in the next. The curatorial
structure may be precise, loose or nonexistent, yet we compose our own invisible map.
This is apophenia at work: the mind’s refusal to let things be merely adjacent. It is not content with
randomness. Instead, it insists on resonance. It draws metaphysical lines across the room, stitching
together fragments into a conceptual whole. One might call it illusion—but perhaps it is the same
faculty that underpins all meaning-making: the impulse to see not just objects, but relations.
Far from being constrained by a predetermined theme, Challenging Apophenia unfolds as an opera aperta
—an improvised confluence of new works by an eclectic group of gallery artists. Its very essence lies
in subverting the observer’s apophenia. Perhaps a political statement, critical of forced hermeneutical
impositions, or just an excuse for a summer show, it will certainly pique the oberserver’s wits. Does it
mean anything? Or are we just seeing some beautiful artworks?
